2017 Tournament Recap

Three days were not enough to determine the Overall Champion for the 99th Annual Father & Son Invitational, as four teams tied for first place with a score of even par 71.  As tradition call for, Joe & Brendan Monahan (Winchester CC), Eddie & Ollie Cordeiro (Belmont CC), David & Ryan Friel (Vesper CC) and Tom & Jeff Monahan (Vesper CC) took part in an 18-hole playoff to determine the tournament champion on August 27th.  To no one's surprise, the playoff was worth the wait. The playoff to determine the winner of this year's Father & Son Invitational was well worth the wait.  Joe & Brendan Monahan jumped out to the early lead by draining a 35-foot putt for birdie on the 1st hole.  They would stumble a bit on the next few holes and post a 37 on the front nine as they shared the lead with Tom & Jeff Monahan.  The solid play of Tom & Jeff resulted in a one-shot lead after the 12th hole, but Joe & Brendan would come storming back with birdies on the 13th, 14th and 15 holes to post a score of 74.  Needing a birdie on the 18th hole to force extra holes, Tom Monahan made a valiant effort on his 40-foot birdie putt, but it just slid past the hole.

The victory was Joe & Brendan Monahan's record 10th Father & Son title and Joe's 17th overall combining with his three sons.
